Issue five, “Monkey Business,” is now under construction! Coming Soon™.
When it came time to go to press, I decided that the “tabloid” cover I’d originally designed for issue three just wasn’t engaging enough, so this is the new version, thanks to a suggestion from long-time Suburban Jungle influencer, HantaMouse. The tabloid design will go on the back cover, instead.
I love this exercise, but it takes forever. If interested, you can find the template here: 25 Essential Expressions
I am still not quite happy with the designs for either Charity or Langley. I was hoping that it would smooth out as the story progressed, but if anything it’s getting worse instead of better, so I’m trying to work it out and “get it right” before going on with another issue.
Charity should be young, almost baby-faced, bright eyed, eager, and cheerful. Think Sailor Moon with spots. So, eyes bigger, muzzle smaller, lots of big expressions are the mode for her.
Suggestions? Comments? I’m all ears!
Wolf called him out… and Louis is nothing if not willing to dunk his sister for charity. (As opposed to doing it for Charity, who would probably not approve.)
Alas, poor Louis– despite her gentle name, Comfort has a temper on her. The aftermath was not pretty.
Anyway! If you’d like to, y’know, actually do something useful for the MDA association, that can be done here.
So apparently these take place sometime in the 1-4 year period after the end of the original SJ comic, as it’s after Tiffany and Leonard get married, but before the actual birth of their son Louis.
(Trivia: Louis Liger is known as “Little Louis” to distinguish him from Tiffany’s brother Louis Tiger, who is known as “Big Louis,” even though Little Louis eventually grows to be something like twice Big Louis’s height.)
Another sketch, suggested by Tiger_T in the sketch suggestions thread!
Pages should return on Monday, hope you’ve enjoyed these. Feel free to leave suggestions for future sketch ideas you’d like to see in the forum!
