Looks like 1 person still hasn’t realized these people are all amateurs. Lady doesn’t even consider that Charity might’ve been acting on instinct. I can’t believe the ref was letting it go.
The real question is, will this destroy the chance of having the regular fights as a source of income. I bet that, amongst other things, is swimming in Charity’s head.
And random thought, reason fox girl didn’t catch up? If she’s not thinking I bet Charity walks as fast as some folks jog when she’s not thinking about it. Between that and the crowds, I wonder how long before someone catches up.
Charity doesn’t even qualify as an “amateur” by their standards. The other amateurs were at least fans of wrestling, and thus knew roughly how things are supposed to work. (Stick to the ‘script’, avoid REAL injuries, make the ‘illegal’ moves look good without violating rule 2.) Charity doesn’t understand how the game works, then went in full of guilt and irritation. Tsunami is kinda lucky Charity DID ‘blue screen’ after that one swipe.
And I think Ms. McCluckens realized that last page.
More like *Charity* is lucky. Natural strength and instincts only go so far when your opponent can match that strength AND has tons more training and experience.
This. Of COURSE in a “serious” fight Tsunami would pummel Charity into the ground like a tent stake, but all it would take is one errant claw swipe for the seal to follow up her “victory” with a nice ambulance ride to the local ER.
First off Tsunami, you did get “mauled”. Charity raked you once along the muzzle and that was only to get you off her……and it was INSTINCT NOT MALICE. Hell…..you’re not even bleeding that much yet you blindsided Charity with a powerful roundhouse that could have seriously injured her.
So I guess on top of everything else, you’re a DRAMA QUEEN as well???
I think Lady Hatcher needs to get rid of your unstable ass……you seem more like a liability than an asset.
Actually, due to the fact that leopard seals are from the Antarctic, they have relatively few blood vessels in their skin so, Tsunami wouldn’t bleed much. However, having experienced plenty of cat scratches in my life, I can attest to the pain she must be feeling. But, that still doesn’t give Tsunami the right to go off the rails and possibly severely injure her host.
Charity has just realized that she’s been on a fool’s errand all along. She wanted to save the Rough House because she wanted to save the people in it, and she is now coming to the realization that none of them care for her the way she cares for them (in spite of herself).
Sure, the kids in the gang had a fun time together at the bikini contest, trying to overcome the obstacles thrown in their path by the mean old adults in the outside world, but now the fun’s over. Keeping the Rough House open will be a tough, demanding day-to-day grind, and none of the staff are cut out for that; they’re too bohemian, too fundamentally uncaring about the future, to make the emotional investment that she has.
To top it off, she’s realized that she’s thrown her tender heart away on someone who probably didn’t even realize how much she cared, and anyone who’s ever loved in vain can tell you that the opposite of love isn’t hate… it’s indifference.
The question is: where will she go now? If she’s anything like her aunt Tiffany, or her dad, she’ll have a good cry, suck it up, go back and try to make things work out somehow, and thereon hangs the rest of this comic.
That’s good for the audience but bad for Charity, because in any sane world, she’d tell Roxie to leave her alone, kick Rufo in the crotch, break a vodka bottle over Langley’s skull, and have her dad demolish the Rough House to make way for something new, like he wanted to do in the first place. None of them deserves better than that.
From someone who has been there and *created* the T-shirt, I would say Charity is feeling she has left everybody down, is questioning her self-worth and feels like a failure.
Of course, none of what she might be feeling is true, but her oast has a very strong influence on her, as it has had, at times, on me. Just ask the Gneech or anyone else who knows me well IRL.
My advice: Charity, take a deep breath of that fresh ocean air, hold your head high, and realize you are better than you think you are. You went into that ring knowing you were totally outclassed, probably weren’t told what was and wasn’t allowed and you acted purely on instinct, like any normal feline. You showed you were better than Tsunami, as you did not react to her goading, which made her even angrier. You knew you went too far and stopped. She didn’t.
I see this ending with Roxie and Charity having a heartfelt chat before kissing under the moon on the beach. BUT that would be too obvious, so maybe Cangrejo Diablo returns and kidnaps Charity for his queen just as Roxie and Charity are about to kiss.
Um somebody better keep an eye on Charity, she might be thinking about a one way swim. If Roxie cares she needs to make sure Charity is NOT alone for a while and ask if she is thinking about suicide.
Let’s not forget Charity hasn’t made any really TRUE friends since she got to the Rough HOuse. Sure, she considers the staff as ‘friends’ but she really can’t talk to them about…things. Roxy on the other hand, she could. I think she is more afraid of loosing Roxy’s friendship more than loosing a romance. This is why she is very confused about everything. She thought Roxy saw her as a friend rather than a love interest and now that she learned this, she is afraid that she will loose Roxy as a friend. The only person she could talk to about personal things. When she saw Tsunami and Roxy getting along so well, it did make her jealous but maybe not in the way Langley made it sound… which is why she fired off on the wolf. But her attack on Tsunami wasn’t because of this really, but it was done out of instinct. Ever heard the expression madder than a cornered cat?
I think I’m more angry at BJ than anybody else. He’s supposed to be keeping the fight fair and safe, but he did nothing to stop the fight until Lady Henhouse ordered him to stop the fight.
I think it’s too late to ask her to be the professional. She’s proven she’s just an ametuer. Hatcher will drop her if she’s smart. A wrestler like that is a liability at the very least.
With the recent shutdown of Project Wonderful, we are currently examining our options for this section. Meanwhile, if you'd like to support the comic...
come here, Charity. I’ll give you a big tiger hug!
Man, Charity just cannot win in any competition 😀

Proooobably best for all involved that it got cut short. XD

I figured Ms Hatcher was going to give Tsunami a talking to. It’s also summat her fault for not having an actual script for these matches.
And Roxie may be just giving Charity some space. She doesn’t know what sparked the outburst, so may not know what to do/say.
D’awwwww! ;.;

Dude… Who hurt you?
Probably that mean ‘ole Reality

This lion wants to give the cheeger a hug. :=3
Agree=All of the 3rd paragraph.
And this giant ET Anthrowolf wants to give the cheeger a hug as well.

Bloop!
Bloop?
THE BLOOP OF CANGREJO DIABLO!!!

Well said. 🙂
I think I’m more angry at BJ than anybody else. He’s supposed to be keeping the fight fair and safe, but he did nothing to stop the fight until Lady Henhouse ordered him to stop the fight.
And he should have DQ’d Tsunami for that roundhouse punch she gave Charity. Or at the very least declared it a draw.
In BJ’s defense, it all happened over the course of twenty seconds. Lady Hatcher jumped in at exactly the same time he was about to intervene. 🙂
(But from an economy of storytelling point of view, BJ’s reaction was edited out to keep up the pace.)
